NO NAPS!
Me: Mason that was a great nap you had. Thanks for taking a nap!
Mason: Me no nap. Eyes nap.
I guess from now on I will ask him to let his eyes take a nap.
Potty Humor
I kept asking for the next hour if he had to go pee-pee and he would say, "No mommy, no potty!" Well next thing I know he has pee'd through his new undies and pants. No biggie, we have more. I told him that it was OK and next time we can go pee-pee on the potty. Well, about an hour later I hear him yell, "Pold, Pold (pold=cold)!" This time he not only wet his underwear and pants but left a huge puddle on the floor. We got all cleaned up and tried it again. We even took a few extra breaks to sit on the potty. But again a little while later, I hear, "Uh-oh Mommy!"
So, after an all-star effort we are back in diapers. I only bought a 3-pack so we'll have to wait til the laundry is done before we try again!

Funny Mason Pics
After seeing Chris doing it, Mason loves to put the pencil behind his ear...
Looks like he forgot his fashion sense...
We're Back....
That afternoon, the Chan's and Jen came over to watch the Eagles and Ravens games. And mom cooked a great dinner for all of us. Monday we attempted to get out for the day but by the time we got ready it was 11:00. We headed for the mall but Mason started falling asleep so we stopped off to play at the Teacher Store. We stayed there until we saw that the snow was beginning to accumulate and headed home. The snow piled up faster than we thought and after a few slips and slides we made it! Mason and I played in the snow for a while. He tried cleaning the snow off of everything -- rocks, trees, cars, etc.
Tuesday we got an earlier start and went to Longwood Gardens. Mason had a great time -- especially in the Children's Garden. They have a wonderful display made just for kids with lots of water. He really loved using the paint brushes in the water. **Pictures to come, they are on the other camera**
Wednesday, perhaps the most fun day of our trip, was spent at the Hockessin Walk-In Medical Center. The boys just weren't acting like themselves and Hudson was super-fussy (and he has never had a fussy day in his life). Finally, after 2 hours in the waiting room, another hour in the exam room, and $60 in copays we received the diagnosis -- both boys had double ear infections and sore throats -- YEA!!! They were put on antibiotics and we were on our way.
Thursday we drove back to Virginia, and boy am I thankful for the DVD player in the car. Not sure I could do the drive without it! The boys have finished up their medicine and looks like they are on the mend.
I had a great time up visiting but something tells me my parents were happy to be heading to Florida after the fuss-buggets were gone!

Hudson's 4-Month Check-Up
Hudson weighed in at 14 lbs, 3 oz (50%), measured 25 1/4 inches (60%), and his head was in the 70%. He had to get 4 shots and one oral vaccination. Which of course left him with a little fever today.
Mason was very good on our visit. For the first time in 26 months he did not shed one tear or kick and scream when the nurse came in. He brought along his Dr. kit and used all of his tools just like the Doctor. Lucky Hudson, he got to be poked and prodded by the Dr. and Mason!
Building a Barricade
Yesterday I told Mason that Ma and Pa were going to come over again today while I went to "work". Actually we had another preschool tour, but I figured he would grasp the idea of me going to work a little bit easier. He asked me if "Lecki" was coming and I said that she couldn't come because she was in school. A few minutes later he came into me and said, "No Lecki play my choo-choo." I told him that Lexi wasn't coming and that is was ok for him to share his toys with her. I was also pretty impressed that he said a 5 word sentence!
A few hours passed and I was upstairs making dinner while he was playing in the basement. He came up to me and said, "No Lecki play downstair!" I explained to him that he and Lexi have fun playing together and he should be nice to her when she comes to play with him. He came up a few more times and repeated the same thing.
Chris got home soon after and we walked downstairs to see Mason. When we got down the steps we saw that he had moved his table in front of the stairs, stacked his rocking chair on top, along with his bean bag chair and several books. Apparently this was how he was keeping Lexi from coming downstairs!

Air & Space Museum - Washington D.C.
They recently opened a new exhibit for children with a ton of hands on activities. His two favorites were: (1) the ball being blown in the air by the fan, and (2) the airplane he could sit in and fly. He was even nice enough to give Hudson a ride in the cockpit. Another favorite was the airplane that you could walk through. Although, he didn't really care about the engines or the passenger seats, he only wanted to see where they stowed the luggage. It turns out one of the pieces of luggage was a dog carrier with a little "beto" (aka dog) in it. Hudson loved looking up at all the planes. His kicked his feet a hundred miles an hour!
I thought this last image was pretty funny. As we were driving out of the city and were stopped at a traffic light about 10 trucks filled with port-a-potties drove by. They were adding them to the thousands already lining the mall.
We had another great day being together as a FAMILY!!!

A Born Leader
He had lined up all of his stuffed animals along the rail of his crib and was talking to them -- or should I say instructing them. After watching for a little while I realized he was teaching them how to climb out of the crib!
Mason: Climb pole. Now, amils (aka animals) Look! look! Now slide pole.
While he was talking his animals through the escape plan he was also using one of them as an example. Marching it up the pole and then having it slide back down. He then took each animal through the process and after said, "Good!"
As I write this he is up in his crib supposedly napping. But no time to spy on him today, more important things to do. Like, email, facebook, and blogging. And I guess that also means no dinner again, woops!
Preschool: The Process
I told myself not to get too wrapped up in it. I really am open to any school, just as long as I get a few hours a week. I think its best for all involved. Mason will be learning social skills, independence and maybe even some academic things as well.. Hudson will get some alone time with just me. Maybe we can even take a music class or something. And I get a little time for myself as well. I relish the thought that perhaps I could squeeze in a shower, or at the very least, on preschool days, I am guaranteed to have brushed my teeth ;)
However, today was our fist preschool tour/interview. It went really well. Mason was very well-behaved, spoke to all the teachers and told them his "new" name. His old name was "you", now its "Mason". Then he started to become a little more adventurous and began peeling the cut-outs off the wall. Ugh-oh I thought, this could make it or break it. Would they give him a red check for this. With thoughts of rejection letters swirling in my head, I blurt out: "Oh, I'm so sorry. We have a felt board at home and he is used to moving the cut-outs around the board." What?!?! We don't have a felt board. I'm not sure Mason has ever even seem one, but its all I could come up with. Right then and there I realized I had been sucked in!

Our Trip to the Botanic Gardens -- Washington D.C.
After the train exhibit we walked through the rest of the main floor and then into "Plants in Culture" exhibit. This was another great exhibit, that Mason really loved (I think even more than the Choo-Choo's). You are able to smell many different types of plants and flowers -- and Mason really loves to use his sniffer (thanks to Mom-Mom). When we got home this evening and were looking at the pictures from the day he wanted "More" of the pictures from him smelling. He even tried to smell the computer screen.

Game, Set, MATCH
Today while we were out shopping, he kept following a lady saying, "Chi-Chi match, Chi-Chi match". We asked him what he meant and he pointed at her bag. It turns out she had the same Vera Bradley bag my sister (Aunt Chi-Chi) has. I guess he has an eye for fashion.
Another shopping story: While we were in a store this afternoon a woman walked by in a zebra print fur coat. Mason caught sight of her and yelled out, "Mommy aminal, Look!"
New Year's Resolution
I have decided to try something new for 2009 -- to simplify and organize. As part of that resolution I am starting a new blog about the family. I am hoping to use it as a way to keep family and friends updated and informed. So, I hope you enjoy reading about all the fun adventures we will have in '09. I promise to try and update it frequently (we'll see how that goes!).
I'll start of by letting everyone know that no one in the family stayed up late enough to watch the ball drop. With both boys in bed before 8:30, daddy and I were not about to waste 3 1/2 precious hours of sleep to ring in the new year. And besides, we got to watch it today on youtube.
Ma & Pa came today for a visit, and we enjoyed a nice lunch with them. I am however craving some Bean Soup (a Chapman Family New Year's Day tradition). When Ma said "Happy New Year" to Mason, he said, "Book?" We had to explain that you don't get presents for every holiday.
Alrighty, off to get some things done around the house while the little ones sleep and Chris is off.
